BB & BAB
Question : Dear Dr. Wati, Mba' Luluk and SP's
Dian
Answer 1 : Mbak ....Dulu aku masih kategori seperti itu loh!Yg kuingat pas usia SMP aja umur 12thn BBnya Cuma 24 Kg ...sma saja usia 18 BB saya 39 kg - ini btahan sampe saya lulus kuliah apalagi habis puasa wahhh...he..he... Dulu ibu saya sama paniknya seperti mbak, saya dibawa ke semua DSA anak seBandung..dan semua kayaknya sepakat anak ini memnag bakat kurus (coba dilihat gen mba n suami or keluarga lainnya mungilkah?)tapiii...yang penting SEHAT. Dan memnag ayah n eyang saya kutilang semua. Beda dengan kedua adik saya yg BB ideal, tinggi n putih lagi (bkn brarti saya item banget loh Cuma tdk sepeutih adek saya) he..he.. kebayang kan terkucilnya saya, paling benci kalo ada yg nanya "anak siapa ini?" kok mamanya putih he..he.. pdhal ayah saya kuning. Akhirnya, ibu saya pasrah asal saya sehat dan pintar. Dan terbukti selama skolah saya lmayan bintang kelas lah he..he..walopun kurus. Buah, minum, sayurnya??Dicoba deh mbak...maaf kepanjanganSalam buat Kevin, dr tante yg dulu juga kurus bgt n skarang susah nuruni BBhe..he..Lulu
Answer 2 : mbak DIan,
Wajar kalo badannya gak gemuk, la wong...anaknya aktif ga karuan smntara makannya susah, jd energinya keluar semua ga ada yg jd daging ditubuhnya krn yg masuk tdk seimbang dg yg keluar. Reyka bbrp hari yg lalu jg susah sekali makannya. Aku coba buat variasi makanan dari bubur sumsum, bubur kcg ijo, sup cream jagung, perkedel kentang+daging cincang, perkedel tahu, sup makaroni+brokoli, spagethy saos putih, ager2 sari kelapa, yogurt+ice cream, yogurt + buah, yogurth doank, nugget ayam home made, segala macam jus2an, dll sampe bingung mesti bikin apalagi. Udah cape2 bikin paling yg dimakan 3-5suap aja, alhasil mamanya lagi yg makan, sehat & gendut dech mamanya anaknya seh ttp aja kurus (he..he..he...). Masa Rafli mau tergantung terus sama pencakar. Kasian kan......kalo ttg vitamin, Reyka pernah diresepkan vitamin nafsu makan oleh DSAnya tapi aku ga pernah berikan krn menurutku ga membantu juga.wah....jd kepanjangan nih.....maaf jika kurang membantu.salam.mamanya R3YkA
Answer 3 : Mbak Dian,Anaknya sebaya sama anak saya.

All About Green Tea And Polyphenols
-A discovery is said to be an accident meeting a prepared mind, Albert von Szent-Gyorgyi (1893 - 1986)
Or as I like to say… When the student is ready, the teacher shall appear! By the way, have I said how much I passionately enjoy green tea, the personal benefits I have witnessed from green tea and what a fantastic unearthing this ‘ancient medicine’ is for modern western living?
After a good deal of research, I have found that there isn’t any other food or drink in general consumption reported to have the innumerable health benefits that green tea possesses...none!
The Chinese have known about the medicinal benefits of green tea since ancient times, using it to treat everything from headaches and lethargia to depression. And did you know that green tea has been used as a medicine in China for over 4,000 years… When will we westerners learn?
At present, in both Asia and America, scientific research is providing a more than solid substantiation for the health benefits long associated with drinking green tea. For instance, in 1994 the Journal of the National Cancer Institute published the results of an epidemiological study demonstrating that drinking green tea reduced the risk of esophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by nearly sixty percent. Conversely, University of Purdue researchers recently concluded that a compound in green tea inhibits the growth of cancer cells. There is also research indicating that drinking green tea lowers total cholesterol levels, as well as improving the ratio of good (HDL) cholesterol to bad (LDL) cholesterol.
To abridge just a few of the medical conditions in which drinking green tea has proved to be helpful:
impaired immune system function
cardiovascular disease
cancer
rheumatoid arthritis
elevated cholesterol levels
numerous types of infections
muscle wasting diseases
Green tea’s ‘secret’ lies in the fact it is rich in catechin polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). EGCG is a powerful anti-oxidant: besides inhibiting the growth of cancer cells, it kills cancer cells without harming healthy tissue. It has also been exceedingly effective in lowering LDL cholesterol levels, and inhibiting the abnormal formation of blood clots. The preceding takes on added importance when you consider that thrombosis (the formation of abnormal blood clots) is the foremost cause of heart attacks and stroke. Quite startling, don’t you think?
For The Record Books…
Correlates are being drawn between the effects of drinking green tea and the "French Paradox." For years, researchers were mystified by the fact that, despite consuming a diet rich in saturated fat, the French have a lower incidence of heart disease than Americans. The answer was found to lie in red wine, which contains resveratrol, a polyphenol that limits the negative effects of smoking and a fatty diet. In a 1997 study, researchers from the University of Kansas concluded that EGCG is twice as powerful as resveratrol, which may explain why the rate of heart disease among Japanese men is significantly low, even though in excess of seventy-five percent are smokers.
So why don't other Chinese teas have similar earth-shaking health benefits? Green, oolong, and black teas all come from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. What sets green tea apart is the way it is processed. In particular, green tea leaves are steamed, which prevents the EGCG compound from being oxidized. By contrast, black and oolong tea leaves are processed from fermented leaves, which results in the EGCG being transformed into other compounds that are not nearly as effective in preventing and fighting various conditions and diseases.
Some Additional Benefits…
The latest evidence emerging is that green tea can even help dieters attain success more rapidly an efficiently. In November, 1999, the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published the results of a study at the University of Geneva in Switzerland. Researchers found that men who were given a combination of caffeine and green tea extract burned more calories than those given only caffeine or a placebo.
Incidentally, green tea can even help prevent tooth decay! Just as its bacteria-destroying abilities can help prevent food poisoning, it can also kill the bacterium that causes dental plaque. Meanwhile, skin preparations containing green tea - from deodorants to creams - are starting to appear on the market showing positive effects.
The Potential Unsafe Effects?
As of today, the only adverse side effect reported from drinking green tea is mild insomnia due to the fact that it contains caffeine. On the other hand, green tea contains much less caffeine than coffee and most soda: there are approximately thirty to sixty mg. of caffeine in six - eight ounces of tea, compared to over one-hundred mg. in eight ounces of coffee and can you imagine the huge contrast in caffeine content between green tea and these ‘new’ high-tech energy drinks that are currently being consumed by the masses with such ravenous voracity.
Green Tea Polyphenols, What Are They You Ask?
Specifically, tea polyphenols are compounds in tea leaves that are natural plant antioxidants. Antioxidants have been proven to prevent damage caused by free radicals to DNA and other molecules.
How Do They Work?
Green tea polyphenols have corroborated several cancer preventive properties. In addition to antioxidant activity, these compounds may as previously mentioned have shown to reduce abnormal cell growth and inflammation; help the body get rid of cancer-causing agents; and restore communication between different cells in the body.
On Cancer… The Facts
The relationship between green tea consumption and human cancer has been studied in several different populations and at various cancer sites. Some of the studies comparing green tea drinkers to non-green tea drinkers support the claim that green tea-drinking, in fact prevents certain types of cancer. Certain dietary, environmental, and population differences may account for these discrepancies. In animal studies, different tea extracts, tea polyphenol mixtures, purified tea components, and tea infusions as the sole drinking fluid have more consistently been shown to prevent cancer, including cancers of the colon, esophagus, liver, stomach, lung, breast, pancreas, and skin. The purified component, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), prevented colon cancer, but did not prevent cancer of the esophagus in animal models. A polyphenol mixture with EGCG, called Polyphenon E, has also shown cancer preventive properties in animals. Animal studies were inconclusive as to whether EGCG or Polyphenol E caused DNA mutations that might trigger cancer growth. Both EGCG and Polyphenon E are being tested for safety and efficacy in humans.
Slower Prostate Cancer Cell Growth Found From Consumption Of Green And Black Tea
A study at The Experimental Biology 2004, in Washington, D.C., reported as part of the scientific program of the American Society of Nutritional Sciences, anti-tumor effects of green and black tea polyphenols in human tissue. And researchers at the University of California at Los Angeles found and were able to detect tea polyphenols in prostate tissue after a very limited consumption of the tea. More notably, the scientists found that prostate cancer cells grew more slowly when placed in a medium containing blood serum of men who had consumed either green or black tea for five days compared to serum collected before the men began their tea-drinking regimen. Serum from men who drank comparable amounts of diet or regular soda showed no such slowing in cancer cell proliferation.
Consequently, Dr. Susanne Henning, UCLA Center for Human Nutrition, pronounced that the UCLA research team - a combination of nutrition scientists and urologists - focused on the feasible outcome of tea polyphenols on factors named polyamines and the enzymes responsible for the production of polyamines. Elevated levels of polyamines have been connected with malignancy in humans, including prostate cancer, and - since polyamines are current in prostate tissue in high concentration - are considered a logical target for chemoprevention of prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer is one of the most widespread cancers among males in the United States, and more than a fourth of all those patients with prostate cancer are known to use alternative therapies, including green tea. This study suggests that both black and green tea are promising natural dietary supplements useful for chemoprevention of prostate cancer, according to Dr. Henning. She plans to investigate if this effect can be enhanced by consuming larger amounts of tea polyphenols in the form of green tea extract supplement capsules.
So If It’s That Good, How Much Should I Drink?
Strangely enough, there are as many answers to this question as there are researchers investigating the beneficial properties of green tea and polyphenols. Herbs for Health magazine mentions a Japanese report citing that men who drank ten cups of green tea per day stayed cancer-free for three years longer than men who drank less than three cups a day (there are approximately 240 - 320 mg of polyphenols in three cups of green tea).
Meanwhile, a study by Cleveland's Western Reserve University concluded that drinking four or more cups of green tea per day could help prevent rheumatoid arthritis, or reduce symptoms in individuals already suffering from the disease. And Japanese scientists at the Saitama Cancer Research Institute have discovered that there were fewer recurrences of breast cancer, and the disease spread less quickly, in women with a history of drinking five cups or more of green tea daily.
A University of California study on the cancer-preventative qualities of green tea concluded that you could probably attain the desired level of polyphenols by drinking merely two cups per day. So which is it? I personally don’t buy the hype that those that manufacture and sell green tea products are propagating…moderation is, like with all things probably your best bet! But given all the evidence, it is almost certainly safe to plan on drinking four to five cups of green tea daily. If you're a real aficionado, by all means imbibe more; but whether or not you'll derive added health benefits remains to be determined.
Okay, enough science… Let’s all just relax and have a cup of green tea or if you like your beverages cold like I do, a glass of ‘iced’ green tea.

Soda Pop and Its Dark Side
I am Dr Patrick Flanagan, and this is the latest edition of my Dr Health Secrets newsletter.
I am a scientist with over 300 inventions related to health, longevity and medicine. This newsletter installment is about soda and its effects on your body.
Pop Goes The Soda
It is one of those classic representations of American culture. I have grown up with it, loved it, consumed tons of it, and stood behind its red and white bottle as if it were part of our constitution. Coca-Cola started a revolution and single-handedly became one of the most successful companies in history. Sold in over 140 countries and to over 5.8 billion people who speak over 80 different languages, Coca-Cola is worth more than 58 billion dollars on the stock market. For more than 65 years, Coca-Cola has been an Olympic sponsor and was even promised to the troops by President Woodrow Wilson during times of war. One in every two cola products and two out of every three soft drinks sold are Coca-Cola.
Invented in May 1886 by Doctor John Pemberton, a pharmacist from Georgia, Coca-Cola was originally marketed as a tonic, containing extracts of both cocaine and of the caffeine-rich kola nut. The cocaine additive was simply a "valuable tonic with nerve stimulant," with sugar being added for extra sweetening. Described as a "delicious, exhilarating, refreshing and invigorating soda-fountain beverage but also as the ideal temperance drink," Coca-Cola was so good that is what, well, addictive.
Drink Up
Soda comprises more than one-fourth of all drinks that are consumed in the United States. More than 15 billion gallons were sold in 2000 alone, which is equivalent to one 12-ounce can of soda, per day, for every man, woman, and child. Carbonated drinks provide more added sugar in the average 2-year-old toddler's diet than cookies, ice cream, and candies added together. 56% of 8-year-olds drink soda daily, and 1/3 of teenage boys drink at least 3 cans a day. 60% of all public and private high schools and middle schools nationwide sell soda. Daily calories from soda and fruit drinks nearly tripled from 1977 to 2001, and side effects of soda include weight gain, fatigue, and sugar dependency.
It is easy to believe I get enough "water" from any liquid refreshments such as soda, coffee, beer, and fruit juices because they all contain water. But the problem is that they also contain caffeine, sugar, alcohol, artificial sweeteners, and chemicals that all cause major dehydration. The more these products are consumed, the more dehydrated you become because the effects that these substance have on the body are the complete opposite of the effects that water has. Caffeine containing products, like Coca-Cola and many other sodas, trigger stress responses within the body that have strong diuretic effects. Added sugars cause blood sugar levels to rise, which then leads to the depletion of much needed cellular water. Over time, chronic dehydration results and toxic levels within the body can become deadly.
Give Me Water and Salvation
Chronic dehydration can lead to headaches, fatigue, nausea, and even death, so staying hydrated is incredibly important. That is where MegaHydrate steps in. Most water's surface tension is so high that the cells of the body can absorb only part of it. MegaHydrate decreases the surface tension of water so that your cells can hydrate themselves properly and thoroughly. With hydrated cells, you have a hydrated body, and a hydrated body is a healthy one.

OBESITAS
Conquering obesity - NOW!
Obesity is a disease that affects approximately 60 Million people in the United Stats and hundred of Millions allover the world.
Women are specially affected. Over one-third of women between the ages of 20 and 74 are obese, that the majority of them being African American or Mexican American.
With more and more pre packaged food and lessand less activity, the number of obese people in America has steadily increased since the 1960's.
Many people think obesity means that a person is overweight, but that's not exactly true. An Overweight person has a surplus amount of Weight, that includes muscle, bone, fat, and Water.
An obese person has a surplus of “body fat”.
Most health professionals concur that a man is Obese if he has over 25 percent body fat, and a women is obese if she has over 30 percent.
Women physiologically have more body fat than men, so that why there's a difference in the percentage. It is difficult to determine the exact percentage of body fat a person has, but estimatescan be made in a number of different ways.
First, using a tweezers-like-tool called a calliper, You can measure the thickness of skin folds On different points of your body and compare The results with standardized numbers.
You can also use a small device that send a
harmless electrical current through your body and measures your body fat percentage.
The most commonly used method to determine ifA person is obese is to look at his/her Body Mass Index (BMI).
A person with a BMI over 30 is considered to be Obese, and a BMI over 40 is considered to be severely obese.
It's important to remember thought that BMI could Be misleading in pregnant or lactating women and in muscular individuals.
With obesity, comes the increased risk of diseases Such as high blood pressure, Type II Diabetes, Heart disease, and breast, colon and prostate cancer.
In addition, obesity has been linked to mental health Conditions such as depression or feeling of shame And low self-esteem.
Health experts say's that even losing 10 to 15 percent Of your body weight can dramatically decrease the Risk of developing these serious conditions. In addition, Many obese people are discriminated against and targets of insults and other verbal abuse.
A number of factors, such as poor diet, lack of Physical activity, genetics, and certain medical disorders Cause obesity, but it can be conquered.

MEMBERSIHKAN USUS BESAR (COLON )
How Clean And Healthy Is Your Colon ?
How Clean And Healthy Is Your Colon?
by Karen Austin
Did you know you could be walking around with up to 25 pounds of undigested food, slime, foul and putrefied fecal matter trapped in your intestinal tract? Yikes! This is not good, by any means. Can you imagine the amount of toxins all this “dead yuck” is producing just for you? I bet you can! According to The Royal Society of Medicine in Great Britain "more than 65 different health problems are caused by a toxic colon.”
Do you suffer from acne, allergies, bad breathe, bloating, belching, constipation, decreased energy, diarrhea, digestive problems, fatigue, hair loss, headache, heartburn, gas, indigestion, insomnia, low energy, low sex drive, poor sexual performance, poor memory, protruding gut, reduced resistance to infections, skin problems, weight gain, difficulty losing weight or slimming of your sides or waistline? Then there’s a great possibility you suffer from “auto-intoxification” caused by a tremendous amount of undigested food and piled up fecal matter trapped inside your intestinal tract along with a potentially damaged digestive system.
How can you really tell if you have a build up of undigested food and deadly fecal matter trapped inside you? If you don’t eliminate after every meal and/or between meals – you could be in trouble. If you only eliminate twice a week or every other day you could be in really big trouble. Your intestines are very likely blocked up and building up deadly toxins with every meal.
Your intestinal tract (about 25-30 feet long; which starts at the mouth and ends at the rectum; and includes the small and large intestines) has two main functions: (1) to absorb nutrients so the body can grow and function properly at optimum health and (2) to eliminate waste from the body to ensure a healthy body devoid of toxins and putrefied organisms and evil parasites. A body without the proper expulsion of such toxic waste matters can ultimately cause illness, disease even death in an individual.
There are two main causes of toxic buildup in your colon: (1) Lifestyle and (2) Eating Habits:
We do not eat the right foods (i.e., containing high amounts of raw, natural fiber). Instead, the foods we eat are not natural or whole at all; rather, they’re processed by man’s machines (i.e., high-fat, artificially flavored, artificially colored, loaded with preservatives). FIBER SOURCES: All vegetables and fruits and nuts. Some grains, but I personally shy away from “bread products” in general. In addition to veggies, fruits and nuts, I’ll incorporate black beans, lentils and brown rice into my diet as well.
Non-Fiber foods to avoid include red meat (meat does not contain any fiber), pork, canned meats, sardines, pepperoni, bacon, sausage, hot dogs, (meat) hamburgers, most restaurant dishes, hams, bologna, meat extenders, fast food, Raman noodles … just to name a few items.
We do not get enough exercise. We sit around all day at work and lie around all night at home watching TV … and then, it’s time for bed.
We do not drink enough water. Today’s consumer drinks more soda, coffee and colored sugar water (i.e., boxed/bottled juice) than they do water – period!
As we age the amount of digestive enzymes we produce start to diminish. We should all be taking digestive enzymes (with every meal) to ensure thorough digestion every time.
What Colon Cleansing Body Detox Products Work Best?
If allowed to deteriorate, a failing digestive system, polluted intestinal tract and diseased colon can cause serious illness and death in anyone alive today. Gain the assistance of specific products designed to help the detox and clean the intestines and your entire digestive tract for the better of life and living healthier ever after. There are a large number of outstanding products designed to detoxify various elements of the human digestive system. Many of these programs target mainly the colon for a full flush of toxic build up, chemical residue and parasites within the intestinal area.
The choices in colon cleansing products can be overwhelming with over 200 available options on the market today. An effective colon cleansing product must be able to: Cleanse your colon of harmful wastes and toxins, as well as promoting improved digestion processes and a better overall quality of elimination. The ability for an effective colon cleansing product to strengthen your immune system, in conjunction with promoting improved nutrient assimilation to boosts energy levels cannot be understated.

Stroke
Overview Symptoms Treatment Prevention
Definition:
A stroke is an interruption of the blood supply to any part of the brain, resulting in damaged brain tissue.
Alternative Names:
Cerebrovascular disease; CVA; Cerebral infarction
Causes, incidence, and risk factors:
Stroke accounts for 1 out of every 15 deaths in the United States. It is the 3rd leading cause of death in most developed countries, and the leading cause of disability in adults. The risk doubles with each decade after age 35.
If the flow of blood in an artery supplying the brain is interrupted for longer than a few seconds, brain cells can die, causing permanent damage. An interruption can be caused by either blood clots or bleeding in the brain.
Most strokes are due to blood clots that block blood flow. Bleeding into the brain occurs if a blood vessel ruptures or there is a significant injury.
BLOOD CLOTS
A common cause of stroke is atherosclerosis. (See stroke secondary to atherosclerosis.) Fatty deposits and blood platelets collect on the wall of the arteries, forming plaques. Over time, the plaques slowly begin to block the flow of blood. The plaque itself may block the artery enough to cause a stroke.
Often, the plaque causes the blood to flow abnormally, which leads to a blood clot. A clot can stay at the site of narrowing and prevent blood flow to all of the smaller arteries it supplies. (This type of clot, which doesn't travel, is called a thrombus.) In other cases, the clot can travel and wedge into a smaller vessel. (A clot that travels is called an embolism.)
Strokes caused by embolism are most commonly caused by heart disorders. An embolism may originate in a major blood vessel as it branches off the heart. A clot can also form elsewhere in the body for any number of reasons, and then travel to the brain, causing a stroke.
Arrhythmias of the heart, such as atrial fibrillation, can be associated with this type of stroke and may contribute to clot formation. Other causes of embolic stroke include endocarditis (an infection of the heart valves), or use of a mechanical heart valve. A clot can form on the artificial valve, break off, and travel to the brain. For this reason, those with mechanical heart valves must take blood thinners.
BLEEDING IN THE BRAIN
A second major cause of stroke is bleeding in the brain (hemorrhagic stroke). This can occur when small blood vessels in the brain become weak and burst. Some people have defects in the blood vessels of the brain that make this more likely. The flow of blood after the blood vessel ruptures damages brain cells.
STROKE RISKS
High blood pressure is the number one reason that you might have a stroke. The risk of stroke is also increased by age, family history of stroke, smoking, diabetes, high cholesterol, and heart disease.
Certain medications promote clot formation and may increase your chances for a stroke. One example is birth control pills, especially if a woman taking them also smokes and is older than 35.
Women have a risk of stroke during pregnancy and the weeks immediately after pregnancy. Overall, however, more men have strokes than women.
Cocaine use, alcohol abuse, head injury, and bleeding disorders increase the risk of bleeding into the brain.

Endometriosis
Overview Symptoms Treatment Prevention
Definition:
Endometriosis is a condition in which the endometrium, tissue that normally lines the uterus, grows in other areas of the body, causing pain, irregular bleeding, and frequently infertility.
The tissue growth typically occurs in the pelvic area, outside of the uterus, on the ovaries, bowel, rectum, bladder, and the delicate lining of the pelvis, but it can occur in other areas of the body as well.
Causes, incidence, and risk factors:
The cause of endometriosis is unknown. However, a number of theories have been proposed. The retrograde-menstruation theory proposes that endometrial cells (loosened during menstruation) may "back up" through the fallopian tubes into the pelvis, where they implant and grow in the pelvic and/or abdominal cavities.
The immune-system theory suggests that a deficiency in the immune system allows menstrual tissue to implant and grow in areas other than the uterine lining. Another theory suggests that the cells lining the abdominal cavity may spontaneously develop endometriosis. A genetic theory proposes that certain families may exhibit predisposing factors that lead to endometriosis.
Once the endometrial cells implant in tissue outside of the uterus, they may become a problem. Each month the ovaries produce hormones that stimulate the cells of the uterine lining to multiply and prepare for a fertilized egg (swell and thicken).
The endometrial cells outside of the uterus also respond to this signal, but they lack the ability to then separate themselves from the surrounding tissue and slough off during the next menstrual period. They sometimes bleed a little bit, but they heal and are stimulated again during the next cycle.
This ongoing process can cause scarring and adhesions in the tubes and ovaries, and around the tubal fimbriae (fingerlike projections at the end of the fallopian tubes). These adhesions can make transfer of an ovum from the ovary to the fallopian tube difficult or impossible. They can also stop passage of a fertilized egg down the fallopian tube to the uterus.
Once in a while the growing cells will penetrate the tough covering of the ovary and begin to multiply. These cells can collect large amounts of blood and form what is called, appropriately, an ovarian blood cyst (endometrioma).
Ovarian blood cysts have been known to grow to the size of a hen's egg or even an orange, and are usually painful. Over time the collected blood darkens and, for this reason, the cysts are frequently called "chocolate cysts."
Endometriosis is a common problem. It occurs in an estimated 10% of women during their reproductive years. The prevalence may be as high as 35% among infertile women. Although endometriosis is typically diagnosed between the ages of 25 and 35, the problem probably begins about the time that regular menstruation begins.
A woman who has a mother or sister with endometriosis has a risk of developing endometriosis that is 6 times greater than that of the general population. Other possible risk factors include early onset of menstrual periods, regular menstrual cycles, and periods lasting 7 or more days.
